The power of the voice – Marta Pinillos
Marta Pinillos believes that the power of the voice can achieve incredible things. That is why this expert speech therapist is dedicated to helping all kinds of people get the most out of their voices. And, as she rightly points out: ‘I have spent my whole life studying and observing the voices of the world. Improving careers in ways you could never imagine.’
She is emphatic in pointing out that her clients’ voices are her life. She also completely rejects the belief that public speaking is something innate. Marta is clear about this and points out that the most important thing for harnessing the power of the voice is consistency and training. And she doesn’t have any doubts when she tells us that she prefers a ‘normal’ voice that seeks to improve to an ‘impressive voice’ that thinks it does not need to do anything else.
Marta is the creator of the High Vocal Performance method, a programme specially designed to bring out the potential of the voice. She also treats various speech disorders at her voice rehabilitation clinic.
We speak to her about all aspects of public speaking and listen to her advice on how to communicate better.
‘I don’t apply the same techniques to everyone. I look at who I have in front of me and what I need to work on. What we need to understand is that we’re talking about muscles. If you train them, you’ll achieve much more.’
‘Public speaking is not just about communicating something orally. For me, it involves different techniques that allow us to clearly express what we want to convey. In other words, it’s about getting the message across exactly as you have it in your head.’
‘If your communication is not effective, you lose confidence, credibility… You are not projecting the image you need to project. Often, the mistake we make is that we have a clear idea in our heads, but what we are thinking does not come out of our mouths.’
‘The voice is the only thing that conveys our emotions.’
‘Everyone should improve their communication skills because, in reality, we are all selling ourselves.’
‘Very few people know how to convey their messages effectively. And that is the big problem we have. Why do we have “bad vibes”? Because it is very difficult to convey the message the way you want to.’
‘Marketing is closely linked to emotion. The voice is pure emotion. Learn! Just as you use other techniques, learn to use your voice.’
‘There are people who are extremely talented, but the majority of people we see and we like, are trained. That’s what I want people to learn: the importance of training.’
‘I want to go one step further. Anyone can improve their communication skills. That’s what we’re here for.’
